MEET CHRIS
In 1988, Chris started the business after finishing his college studies and at the same time starting his five year apprenticeship with three local sign-writers. In that time, he perfected his skills in the trade and gained vast knowledge passed down from the three major sign-writers in Wiltshire at
that time. He then proceeded to work alongside these sign-writers while running the business, travelling up and down the country on signwriting projects for various clients large and small.
Projects were carried out for many local businesses and customers such as GWR Radio, Swindon Town Football Club, Great Western Hospital and Gulf Oil Company to name a few. Sign projects ranged from vehicle sign-writing, pub signs, shop fascias and windows, banners to large murals and painted artwork. Back then he traded as; C. Turner - Sign-writer.
After many happy years trading under this name, the sign industry advanced in technology and different methods were used. The company underwent a re-brand and became Turner’s Signs and
his father joined him in expanding the business. The company still continued with the hand-painted signs but also took on new projects which included graphic design, commercial printing and vinyl graphics. The business continued to progress and their client base expanded.
Fast forward to 2010 and the company had another re-brand, this time the name changed to abc Signs and Designs. His father by this time had retired, but Chris carried on trading offering great value, outstanding design, print and sign solutions for clients old and new. He now offers the full range of print, design and sign products.
Chris has his regular long-standing customers which have been returning to him for over 30 years and their loyalty means a lot, but he’s always delighted to meet new clients and add them to his customer base. Over the many years he’s worked with large and small companies and delivers the same high standards to all.
He’s worked on many projects for the following; Serco, The Defence Academy, Homebase, Arkells Brewery, O2, Lloyds Bank, Barclays Bank, Hampton Court Palace, Oxford Brookes University plus many schools and colleges.
Now in 2020, Chris is more excited than ever to take on new projects and meet new clients, to see how he can help them in their goal to brand their business, expand their advertising, signage and printed products...
IN THE
BEGINNING
abc signs started trading in 1988 when a sign shop was a little different to what it is now! Although the fundamental basics of design, impact, customer service and value for money still exist today.
Back in the 1980s sign-making for display boards, windows, banners, boards and vehicles were sign-written with brushes, palette and enamel paints. We painted all types of lettering, gold leaf, pictures, pub signs, murals, vehicle and van graphics by hand as the world passed by at a much slower pace than it is today…

Fast forward 31 years and we are still trading and doing better than ever.
Our customer base has expanded and we cater for companies large and small in and around Swindon, Cirencester, Oxford and Wiltshire areas. From the Armed Services
and Hampton Court Palace through to local sole traders like plumbers, gardeners and electricians, we cater for all businesses and treat everyone with respect and give the same customer focussed one-to-one
service throughout.
MODERN
TECHNIQUES
Today, we still sign-write the same signs in our sign shop by hand, when required. Some of our customers still love the hand painted effect and love to watch their signs come to life through the artist’s brush, but most of our work has been brought right up to date with the most modern sign-making systems.
We print and cut high quality vinyl graphics and large format printed images and logos and our business has expanded into Business Stationery and Graphic Design.
